The Truth About Attachment Parenting and the Power of Delight on The She Births® Show Podcast

Welcome to Season 5 episode 1 - What Is Attachment Parenting REALLY? In this episode we explore the origins & value of a soul lead motherhood.

Our guest today is Bethany Saltman - an author, editor and researcher whose work has been published in the New Yorker, Parents, and many more.

Strange Situation: A Mother's Journey Into the Science of Attachment, is her first book inspired by the birth of her daughter who although she loved dearly, she feared she was failing. And was not the kind of mother she'd hoped to be.

Bethany spent ten years learning about the science of attachment, traveling to labs, doing training, reading archives - trying to discover what the essence of healthy attachment and good mothering really was.

To me her book is the thinking woman's guide to attachment - a helpful and healing non self help book! It is extremely well written and a pleasure to read.

Among many other incredible reviews and accolades, New Scientist called Strange Situation One of the Best Science Books of 2020.

Bethany is also a bestselling book coach, and was one of the architects of America's first Affirmative Consent Policy. She has a MFA and studied with Allen Ginsberg and is a longtime Zen student - devoted to the fine art and game-changing effects of paying attention.

She lives in the Catskills with her husband, daughter, and two dogs and I was so honoured to have her on our show.

You have to excuse my tears in a few moments throughout the interview - remembering the beauty and delight of parenting sometimes brings up grief for me.

I really hope you enjoy our talk. Bethany's book is available at all good bookstores and is also on Audible.
